Grand Canyon 1 day driving trip to both rims? |
Travel Info We are moving from Nebraska to California in August. We plan to stop in Cedar City for the night. Start out early next morning and drive to the north rim. Spend a couple of hours there and drive around to the south rim. Spend a few hours at a couple of places and drive down to Williams, AZ. Can this be done in one day? This is hard to judge when on surface roads. Travel Tips That is too much to try if you really want to absorb the canyon. Also the run from north rim to south rim contains so fantasic views itself. Along the way is the Navaho bridge, well worth the stop for scenery. Plus there are California condors that nest within easy views. Additionally there is a road that goes to the bottom of the canyon. It was the site of a former ferry across the canyon. Places to spend the night between the two are few and far between. Please double check the map for towns Others If you want to see and explore the canyon a little in depth, this might be hard. From the north rim to the south rim can be a 3 hour trip. You could probably do it, but you would have to move fast, with less time exploring the canyon. |
