Why are switzerland's initials "SUI"? |
Travel Info Why are switzerland's initials "SUI"? Travel Tips the "offical" name of Switzerland is Confoederatio Helvetica (CH) but this is normally not used internationally. derived from the french word for Switzerland (Suisse), SUI has been taken as the offical abbreviation (due to the offical language french used at the olympic games). Switzerland has four offical languages, German, French, Italian and Romansh. Further information about Switzerland can be found here http://www.about.ch/welcome.html... Source(s): me, a native swiss :D Other Travel Tips Probably has a lot to do with the fact that "Suisse" is the proper spelling of Swiss in Switzerland. coz i think in their language, Switzerland is called "SUISSE" But i dont kno what language they speak....haha!! because in most european countries, switzerland's name in the local language is "Suisse" the same way Germany is "Deutschland" and Norway is "Norge" and Sweden is "Svensk". okay I didnt know that either. tnx Well Suitzerland, cause at the middle age speaks German an Flamish that's why they take the "SUI" |
