January in Glasgow? |
Travel Info I am from Texas, and am contemplating Glasgow in January. Any advice? Will the weather be terrible? Snowy? Rainy? Just cold? Travel Tips It's going to be cold, rainy and some snow; but personally, it's the perfect time to go because not many tourists, prices cheaper(air and hotel), you could stay in cozy local Bed and Breakfasts or a castle a couple nights with big roaring fire; There's always the pubs and shopping and short road trips! Go! Enjoy! Who cares if it's a wee bit blustery... Others In January you might well be facing rough weather, most likely around freezing point. It never freezes too hard in Glasgow though. When it rains or snows in Glasgow however, it usually does so all day long - you get a lot of storms coming in from the Atlantic - blizzards aren't rare. No tropical storms and hurricanes obviously, but cold and hard all the same. Weather in Edinburgh (further off the Atlantic coast) is usually slightly better. Equally cold and wet, but with a slight chance the sky might clear up later on the same day. I once went to Spain in January, enjoyed sunshine at 25 degrees Celsius, then 6 hours later landed in Edinburgh in a snowstorm. Scotland in January is not for the faint-hearted. pack your winter woolies, some water tight shoes and a good umbrella. we don't often get snow in january, but scottish weather never plays by the book so i may well be forced to eat my words. you might find there is the odd sunny day, but it will still be utterly freezing. weathers always terrible here, doubt there'll be snow but it will rain a lot and be really cold. |
