Is Glasgow a green city like London ? |
Travel Info Is Glasgow a green city like London ? Travel Tips Yes...very much so!.In fact in the 1980's Glasgow was known to have more park space per person than any other city in Europe.I don't know quite what the situation is now but the parks in Glasgow are magnificent. There are so many.Queens park with breathtaking views of the city.Kelvingrove park in the trendy west end. Glasgow Green with the People's Palace and of course the Botanic Gardens again in the west end and so many more.I have knocked around the world a bit and Glasgow has fossil groves, allotment parks...so much to see.The name Glasgow itself comes from the gaelic meaning a dear green place.Ignore the nonsense about drunks in Sauchiehall street and remember that just ouside of Glasgow are beautiful areas like Palacerigg country park, Strathclyde Park, Chatelherault Castle Park. The list goes on and on.Regards. Others In what way is London a green city? It's polluted to hell. Only if you're looking at the mould growing on the drunken tramps on Sauchihall Street Glasgow is a green City but as with London you need to know where to look or you may get the impression it's all built up. Try the Glasgow tourist board for information. Or go to http://news.scotsman.com/glasgow.cfm?id=... Glasgow means "Dear Green Place" - named by St Mungo who is Glasgow's patron. Glasgow is much greener than London and more fun Glasgow is the "Dear Green Place" at one point Glasgow had more park space per capita than any other in the UK. Go to Kelvingrove Park in the west end and pop into the Art Galleries and Glasgow Green to see the Doulton Fountain at the Peoples Palace. I think every city is a green city now but it is a really hard problem to tackle. I am just back from Glasgow and it was reasonably clean but like everywhere you are always going to get litter etc |
