Driving in and around Glasgow?? |
Travel Info What is it like as a city?? Full of 1 way streets, is it a big city, will I have an absolute nightmare??!! Or will it be the same as an average sized English town..... Travel Tips Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland and third largest in Britain with around 2,2 million people. Well, I'm Norwegian and I have visited Glasgow a few times by car. The thing to remember is that there are very few roadsigns in the city streets and it's easy to get lost. There are a few one-way streets, but no more than in other cities. I don't think you would have too much trouble, buy a road atlas and take it easy, don't stress and you'll be fine. I was very worried driving into London (which is much larger than Glasgow), but it went fine. It's only natural to be nervous, just remember it's not as difficult as it sounds. Is this your first visit to Scotland? In case, you can look foreward to a wonderful time, the people are very friendly and the scenery outstanding! Enjoy it! Others English sized town? Are you mad? Its a city ffs! full of nutters The City Centre does have lots of 1 way streets. It will be the same as driving through a comparably sized english city, i.e a nightmare if you're not familiar with it! If you've never been here I wouldn't recommend driving through the centre. Frizzle,,,, Glasgow is one of the largest cities in the UK...it has a history of heavy engineering and ship building although much of it is now in decline....It was nominted as a European City of Culture and there are fine Museums and art galleries....If I were you I would go on E-bay and buy a Tom-Tom Go Sat. Nav in which you can load directions around Glasgow and any other city...makes for a less stressful drive...Having said that some one else may read my answer and tell you if Glasgow has a Metro rail service...I think it has and then you don't have to drive....In fact I'll put that question up and you can look it up later...Bye its really quite easy, the centre is on a grid system with one way streets running east/west and north/south. in addition the motorway runs right through the city meaning that you can quickly travel acroos the city by hopping on and off it. I live and drive in glasgow and find it much easier than driving in edinburgh for example which is full of windy one way roads and no entry signs. if you're a reasonably confident driver you'll be absolutely fine |
