What is the "title" of Glasgow? |
Travel Info ..if paris called the city of lights cairo called the city which don't sleap london called the cold city algeria the country of milion death etc. etc. how is glasgow named? city of knives? city of the thieves? lol Travel Tips According to Wikipedia, and we all know Wikipedia is always right (I'm being sarcastic if you can't tell) there are 3 possible nicknames for Glasgow: 1.The Dear Green Place (from one interpretation of the Gaelic name Glaschu) 2.Second City of the Empire 3.Shipbuilding capital of the world I haven't heard of any of them but then I'm not from Scotland. I just have an unhealthy obsession with the place. :-) Oh and also according to Wikipedia Cairo is either Mother of the World or Paris of the Nile, London is The Big Smoke, The Great Wen, Londonistan, or London Town. And the City that Never Sleeps is usually in reference to New York City. Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/list_of_cit... Other Travel Tips I have NEVER heard London being referred to as the cold city i live just a few miles away and its news to me. I have NEVER heard Algeria being referred to as the country of million deaths and my husband is Algerian. I am a Glaswegian and Glasgow was the European city of culture, several years ago. It is a very cosmopolitan city and you can call it what you like wont change the fact that it is a fantastic city full of architecture, art, culture and humour. EDIT: Yeah you did. Where give me a link. Cause the site you got them from is cr*p! Glasgow's the city with style. It's also smiles better. You are on the right track,as it's actually the murder capital of Europe!!! But don't let that put anyone off visiting it's a great place really. Also Edinburgh is Auld Reekie (old smelly town) or The Athens of the North. Aberdeen is The Granite City. Glasgow to me is The City of Culture,an award the city got years ago and has quite rightly stuck. Theres a big sign as you go into glasgow which says..... "Glasgow - Scotland's caring city" And "Glasgow - City of style" To Harry Lauder it was "dear old Glasgow toon". And then there's Edinburgh: "Auld Reekie". |
