Hope you don't think i'm cheeky but.......? |
Travel Info We are trying to trace my fathers birth place. He claimed to be the only Scottish Jew in Clayton(Manchester). We've checked the Public Records Office but he's not shown in England or Wales. If anyone is going anywhere near your PRO could you check for Frederick Clark September 17th 1909. I would be eternally grateful. By the way his father was called John Willy and he served in the Boer War and WW1. Thanks Fred Clark Travel Tips can you email me his wife's maiden name?? - i could have a look on my ancestry for you. i did a quick search of births..but nothing really showed up for that area. are you positive that fred was his 'real' first name?..not being cheeky...but my family, all use different names...my uncle ronnie - his real name was william..and my dad - real name gordon - is called mick - dont know why they do that to us!! lol! anyway;, if you have any more info - i could have a quick look for you if you like. Others Oy Vey...Jews have been in Manchester for 200 years... When I was researching my family tree I discovered that during the generations, sometimes family names got changed for various reasons. That may be why you are having trouble finding it, it may very well be true, I have no idea but if you look through your family tree you may find that the sirnames were changes in different generations and if that is the case you can look under the different spellings. For example sometimes names that started Mac got changed to Mc. It happened alot in history. Hope this helps you! i found a frederick clark born in holborn on ancestryco.uk Sounds like a name change to me. I've been asked to help with similar cases but if you do not have the original family name from the 'old country', it may not be possible. There are many Scottish Jews. e.g Rabbi Burns, the famous poet. |
