Travel Info When will Cyprus change over to the Euro ? Travel Tips Cyprus joined the E.U. in 2004, though it is not yet a full member until it has implemented certain requirements. Provided that Cyprus can satisfy the five Maastricht criteria, they will be allowed to adopt the Euro currency. This week the Cyprus government officially submitted it's application for membership of the eurozone. It is fully expected that this will be approved and if all goes to schedule, Cyprus will adopt the Euro on 1st January 2008. And once joined they need to meet certain economic criteria to change over They voted against becoming part of the Eu so changing to the euro will be a logn way off Michele c has answered it far better than i ,but just to politely point out that Cyprus is not actually Greece . Yes Cyprus joined the EU in 2004 along with Malta but they have not changed there currency to Euros yet they are gearing for the currency to change in 2008 it was supposed to happen in 2007 but they government put it off for a year. |
