Do I take Sterling, Greek Euros or Travellers cheques to Greece? |
Travel Info I will be traveling with my family to the Greek Island of Rhodes early next week. I would like to know if it is best to take Greek Euros, Travellers cheques, or pounds Sterling? I know it is much safer to take travellers cheques in case they are lost or stolen, but I always feel I'm being ripped off whenever I cash them in, even though it says we do not charge commision, you just know you are not getting a good exchange rate. Is it better to take all Euros, all Sterling,(and exchange them out there) all travellers cheques or a combination of all three? (I am intending to take 拢1,500 worth of which ever one's are recommended). Travel Tips Take Euros in cash to cover you for the first night. Also take yor Nationwide card for commisson fee cash withdrawals from the ATM. Others They're not "Greek" Euros they're just Euros. I would take Sterling T/C's if you dont go abroad a lot. Suggest you take Euros because Greece is very much a part of the Eurozone and that's the only currency that will be accepted at all places. Of course, you can also use your credit card. As a frequent traveler, I take all three- cash, credit cards and traveler checks, though I agree that checks often turn out to our disadvantage in exchange rates. The reason is that in case I lose my cash and credit cards due to any unforeseen circumstances or am robbed- I still can depend on my traveler checks. frequent traveler/ travel writer I suggest that you take a few ounces of gold with you and then you can convert it into whatever currency you wish when you arrive. Take an amount of Euros and the rest in Sterling to change as you need it that way you dont get stuck with changing it back if you dont spend it. Euros are best. |
