Travel Tips
Well done you two for choosing my favourite holiday island- Cyprus is fantastic.!

Ok.. don't bother with the north of the island, stick to the south.
Ayia Napa for the clubbing scene and the beaches although not so much in the way of historical sites.
Ayia Napa is a bustling resort built around a quaint fishing village, it's a sun worshippers paradise. It boasts some of the best beaches in Cyprus, with beautiful golden sand and crystal clear waters. The focal point of the village is the 16th century Venetian Monastery which, steeped in legend, backs on to the cobbled square - a popular meeting place with visitors and locals alike. Nearby is Fig Tree Bay,wich is in the Protaras area and boast one of the islands best beachs, and just a short distance to the north, the look-out point at Dherynia which borders the deserted ghost town of Famagusta

Limassol is worth a visit but I personally don't like staying there for too long- there are some great hotels though.

For the best in historical sites it just has to be Paphos. It has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. It was a centre of the cult of Aphrodite and of pre-Hellenic fertility deities. Aphrodite's legendary birthplace was on this island, where her temple was erected by the Myceneans in the 12th century B.C. The remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses and tombs mean that the site is of exceptional architectural and historic value. The mosaics of Nea Paphos are among the most beautiful in the world.

With its population of only 27,000 inhabitants Paphos is the capital of Cyprus' western region. Most of the inhabitants work as employees in various branches of tourism, because there is not much industry.

Paphos consists of two areas: the coastal resort area (Kato Paphos) and the town itself (Pano Paphos) which is slightly inland.

Paphos is very popular with tourists, and especially with English, German and Scandinavian tourists. Among its attractions are its ancient mosaic floors, its beautiful old harbour, its modern hotels and restaurants, situated along the seaside promenade.Other sights include an archaeological museum, the Byzantine castle of Paphos, the Tombs of the Kings, St. Paul鈥檚 Pillar and the Temple of Aphrodite (the goddess of love and beauty).

Paphos isn't so clubby as Ayia Napa, but it's got a lively nightlife and the beaches at Coral Bay are lovely.

I would say- go the whole hog- treat yourself to one of the beautiful hotels go 4 star and have a great time!
The ones to look at which aren't going to completely break the bank are The Venus Beach (beside Tombs of the kings)
The Louis Imperial Beach, The Avanti and The Aloe- I have stayed in them all and I can promise you'll have a great time! Source(s): My head- been to Cyprus too many times to mention and I have a home in Peyia (beside Coral Bay in Paphos)

We definitely need another category for Cyprus. Because Cyprus is another country, not part of Greece.
As for your question, there are all those things you are asking for in almost every town in Cyprus except the capital Nicosia (in both south and north parts).
I would recommend Paphos in the Greek part (south) and Kyrenia or Famagusta in the Turkish part (north). Lots of historical sites, lovely hotels etc. The best sandy beaches are in the north-east of the island, in the Karpaz peninsula.
I'm a Cypriot (Turkish) living in Nicosia.
Hello dear!
You will enjoy excellent time in Cyprus! It is a great place; I visited it last year and was astonished with the nature, antiquities, beaches and superb people! I stayed in a hotel in Larnaca, close by the home town of Zenon (one of the wise people of antiquity). I stayed for about a week and visited many regions, cities, museums, villages, etc.
How long will you stay there? If you stay long enough, you would better rent a furnished home, I would recommend.
I'm from Cyprus myself but I must admitt that Lady Traveller's reply is FANTASTIC!! (thank you Lady Traveller for your kind words about our Island)

E-mail me if you need details about Cyprus. I can give you links to websites for anything you need and I can't answer myself.. :)
