I'll be visiting Greece soon, any places i should'nt miss? |
Travel Info It'll be my first time in Greece, i need advice from locals. Are there any places i shouldn't miss? Any suggestions? Travel Tips Depends on how long you'll be staying and where your airport is. If you want to see the stereotypical touristic Greece, then yest, Parthenon in Athens, a stroll around Plaka and Monastiraki (the area around Parthenon) and then Piraeus to catch a ship and go to an island. However continental Greece is especially beautiful and you get to see the real country. Thessaloniki or Ioannina are beautiful cities, Pilio is great, mount Olympus is beautiful (with nice beaches not far), Peloponese has great historic site (Olympia, Epidaurus theater), Delphi are impressive, in Vergina (between Veria and Thessaloniki up north) you can see the archeological site of Kings Philip and Alexander the Great, Kavala is a pretty town and Meteora are special. For great beaches, go to Chalkidiki. For nice sunsets over the white-blue houses, go to the Cyclades islands. For something different and really pretty, go to Corfu or Rhodes. Crete is well known for a variety of things to do and see too. Others besides the Acropolis try to get to the island of Rhodes! its awesome! I spent 10 days in Greece and it was wonderful although it snowed the first time in 40 years the week I went! Also go walk around Athens they have amazing food and stores and outdoor markets. The Olympic stadium is great also so many places! Visit the Acropolis, the Archeological Museum, go to some islands, any ones, they are all beautiful and have their own individual charm.!!! So, you have to come to Rhodes.It is my island, but it is also the favourite island of the majority of tourists. You will discover the old town, medievbal, the narrow streets, the palace of the Grand Master, the valley of the butterflies, the 7 springs.It is something out of the usual holidays...A cosmopolitic island, with the most beautiful 3 coloured sea. Dont miss it... Well there are lots of beautiful islands and cities, like Thessaloniki and Santorini....etc etc, but I recommend Rhodes as well. But my reason is because you can fly into Rhodes, experience the big island and explore its villages and its medieval old town, and then you can day trip, or if you have a month... stay a few days in Symi. Symi is 45 minutes away from Rhodes by hydrofoil and it is a beautiful island with a breathtaking harbour. It has venetian facades rather than the typical blue and white and a must-see Monastery Panormitis which pilgrims come from all over Greece to see in the festivals it has in November. It has its influences of tourism, but the people are fairly stubborn and still have their old Greek ways. Its a lovely quirkly island that you shouldnt miss if you are going to Rhodes anyway! Have a great holiday!! Why don't you start in Athens, visit the ancient sites and then ferry it down through the islands stopping off at the 'favourites' a few days at a time within your month? !!! Santorini !!! It's amazing. Also try some other islands Mykonos, Paros, Serifos Crete also but u should spend some days there. can u make it? I'm so glad you asked. Greece is an amazing place to stay! All my family and friends have been, and I'm going either this summer or in September (on a pilgrimage) You absolutely must go to the island of Rhodes, to Crete, Athens (not for too long in Athens) the Acropolis, Santorini, and if you want hubs of fishing and boating, go to the ports of Piraeus and Rafina. |
