Irini's Rooms in Santorini? |
Travel Info Has anyone stayed at Irini's Hotel Rooms in Kamari beach, Santorini? What is it like? It's soo cheap, I'm wondering what is the catch. Please let me know if you recommend it, what it compares to, and if any caveats. Thanks Travel Tips Kamari beach in Santorini is kind of like a seaside area- it's ok, but not nearly as pretty as say Ia. If it's sooo cheap, it probably because it's one of those plain, non-descript rooms on the beach. But there are some better alternatives. Santorini is so small you can literally drive around the island on a scooter in an hour, so you can stay anywhere and explore all of the different beaches (and there are tons). Ia, which is the highest point on Santorini is gorgeous and more quiet and there are some great places to stay on the caldera. These are the traditional "caves" that are built into the rock, but they are so unbelievably beautiful. There was a place called Perivolas that had about 9 rooms or "caves" that all opened up to the caldera, with a pool that went to the edge of the cliff. There was a separate "cave" where the bar was. And it's walking distance to the place that everyone goes to to watch the sunset. Bring a bottle of wine and enjoy the scenery there. Fira, which is the next highest point on Santorini is geared towards a younger crowd, much busier and not as pretty. Another thing to do on Santorini: From Ia, you walk down this long flight of rocky steps to the water and there is the best fresh seafood restaurant where you can go and pick out the fish you want (that was just caught that day) and eat outside under the stars. But be warned: it is hell climbing back up those steps. Finally, Fodor's does a great book on Greece and the islands and they clue you in to some great deals. Others Hi! I have just checked it out for you. Its OK. The prices are normal and there is no "catch" here. I hope thats the one you mean: http://www.irinis-santorini.com/hotel-ro... But! Santorini has two sides. One is with the incredible view (Oia or other places) but there is no beach to swim and it is indeed far more expensive. The other such as kamari has the beach but no view. I prefer Kamari as in the day you can be at the beach and then around 18:00 move on the other side to see the sunset and for dinning. Kamari has also plenty of restaurants and mini markets as well. I hope I helped a bit... Welcome to Greece Just a Greek |
