Good places to visit in Athens?

Travel Info
Going on holiday to Athens for a week. Heard that the Acropolis is a must visit but what to visit/do the rest of the week? Any recommendations?

Travel Tips
Apart from Acropolis and the monuments on top of it, visit the Ancient Agora (Forum) and nearby Kerameikos, the National Museum with exhibits of all periods of ancient Greece, Benaki Museum with exhibits as from the hellenistic era to the 19th century, along with a very important collection of greek traditional costumes and items (there's a very important collection of Islamic art too), the Temple of Poseidon at cape Sounion, where you can also enjoy a bathe, visit the Lycabettus hill where you can have lunch or dinner and enjoy a magnificent vew of Athens, try the little taverns all around Filopappos Hill, and as for bars, clubs etc the coast avenue from Faliro to Glyfada will give you lots of choice...
Others
Yes, try Crete.
Crete is not in Athens(reply to the friend above).
Thision, Monastiraki, Plaka, Archeological museum, Filopappou , and also the areas of the sea Palaio Faliro,Glifada...You can also visit the north aprt of the capital, Kifisia, and also the town of Pierus and enjoying the air of the sea(even if it is not so pure)in Mikrolimano, Pasalimani...
There's lots of museums in Athens, if you're interested in that. The Benaki is very good, with lots of interesting artefacts.
If you're into shopping, go to the main street, Ermou, which has lots of shops and that also leads into more little shopping districts.
If you have transport, go to Sounio, about an hour out of Athens. It the temple of Poseidon and has great views and a good little cafe.
Hope this helps
There are so many things to do in Athens. Acropolis yep, then temple of Zeus, royal Gardens, Ancient forum, roman forum, hill of lycabettus, archaeological museum, etc etc etc., then if you stay for so long I would suggest you go to the southern suburbs of athens, near the beach. There are some wonderful beaches, with nearby tavernas to eat fresh fish and have great time.
Besides the classic sites listed in any travel guide go here (If you can afford it):

1. Dinner at "Kyrios Pil Poul" (center of Athens, go at night, you dine on the terrace with Acropolis view)
2. Ithaki restaurant (south Athens, go around the sunset)
3. Visit kefalari town (North of Athens)

Buy lonely planet guide. Its very handy!
it depends on you, what you like or not. Take a tour to Mateoras. It is one of the most beautiful places in Greece.
