Renting of moped/bike/scooter in Greek Islands? |
Travel Info Hi, my partner and I will be visiting Mykonos, Santorini and Ios Islands this Sept. Is renting a moped a good idea in these 3 islands or should we just take a bus (if convenient?)? Any idea how much does a bike cost in Sept on the 3 islands? I would be very happy to receive as much info on the 3 islands as possible as this is going to be our first time there. Many thanks in advance :) Travel Tips A moped is a "must do" in all three islands. The price ranges from 13-20 euros depending on the type. If you are 2 people I suggest that you rent a 80cc instead of an 50cc as it will make your life easier in some hills and it runs smoother. If you really want to explore the islands, a bus is not convenient really. All 3 islands are great! Enjoy! Others Renting a moped is the best way to travel around. Cost is between 10 and 15 Euros per day! Get the Lonely Planet for good ideas! I agree it's the best way to tour the islands! Also remember that the prices on September are negotiable if you think th eprice is expensive then ask for a better price. I think it's more than 15e/day but I'm not sure about it also it depends on the type/condition of the bike. Have a nice stay! Its a convenient but not a good idea if you dont really know how to drive one. Santorini is very difiifcult to drive lots of cliffs and difficult turns. Lots and lots of accidents. Mykonos is more easy to drive but when i was (back in the 90;s) for a whole day at the police station at least 10 tourists reported their moped stolen. Havent been to Ios but if you go to the tourist area you will be drunk half the time (the other side of Ios is more relaxed but expensive) A great way to see any island, BUT, you must check with your insurance to make sure you are fully covered just in case you have an accident. I am not trying to put you off, make sure you book with a good bike hire and get a good moped,ask what will happen if it gets stolen or if you have an accident,many travel agent advise against hiring. Would you concidor hiring a car ?. As said before there is a lot of bad turns on the roads and cliffs, have a great holiday and drive safely. Going to Greece for 20 years |
