I'm going to visit a friend in Guadalajara, Mexico, but what should I see/do there?

I'm a 35 year old, gay man who likes rock concerts and extreme culture, so anything off the beaten path there would be interesting. Also I'm a war/torture history buff as well, so if there's anything interesting about the area, I'd dig that as well. Any suggestions?
