i am coming from canada, montreal, they say grey hound can take me to matamoros, and that they have no information once i cross into mexico. this is for a medical emergency so i do not care if it is scary or difficult but it must be as cheep as possible. please help, perhaps you can suggest alternatives as well... thanks

here is what i would do. i wouldnt go to matamoros. i would go to either laredo, tx or better mcallen, tx. (but matamoros is fine) from the bus station there buy a ticket to monterrey which is about 4-5 hours and no more than $25US. once in monterrey buy another ticket from several of the companies in the terminal to gdl which is about 12 hours and going to be $40-60 depending on the class you get. id spend a little more and take an executive class bus in the evening and sleep on the bus and wake up in gdl. just a note: when you buy your ticket at the border on the american side for a monterrey bound bus, crossing the border is easy BUT let the driver of the bus know you need to get a tourist visa at the border because many times the driver will not know, not care and leave people there. it isnt like he is counting the passengers to make sure everyone is on. this isnt kindergarten. most of these buses are used by mexican nationals or people that are familiar with the process. uh. i was left once and had to wait for the next monterrey bound bus to pass thru by the same bus company. not cool. also the bus system in mexico is many times better than the american one. they are clean with bathrooms, probably a 2 year movie playing, sometimes comp drinks in the back depending on the company, go back and check. lol. and on the long trips you will get a chance to get out and grab something to eat at some point on the way. in this case probably zacatecas. |
