In general do hang out around the central plaza with it's fountains, benches and very old trees, surrounded by colonial buildings, bars and restaurants. there is where you will find the sellers of the "Tipica', clothes and hand woven articles, and so many different kinds of people, locals and tourists. For food, do visit the restaurants called Dona Luisa Xicotencatl or La Fonda de la Calle real. If you like hiking and scenery, climb the Volcan De Agua and spend the night on top, or visit the Mariposario de Jocotenango, five minutes away. Buena Suerte! Source(s): Personal Experience Other Travel Tips the beach nowhere, get out of antigua, its the whitest part of central america. if you dont like spanish and you dont want to feel like your in guatemala then stay there. a nearby place is on the lago de atitlan, dotted with little towns its good fun. for a few days even if you really want to party go to san pedro la laguna.... if you really want to party. and disregard the bs, guate is also a nice place, most people avoid it so it gets abad rap. but fir the best.... go to nicaragua There are a lot of places to go there, it's one of my favorites places in the world, a old colonial-time town. The Central Plaza, the "Mercado de Artesanias" and the bars are a great place to hang out. There are a lot of restaurants to visit depending on the money you want to spend, personally i like to eat at low cost places where you can eat for under $3 and have a lot of money to drink as much as you like.
