Guatemala has some good things to see!

The Tikal ruins are probably the most famous, its an ancient settlement (Mayan) stuck in the middle of the jungle. It was in one of the star wars films and you can wonder round the pyramids etc at the same time that monkeys are swinging from the trees above!

Antigua is another place to look out for. Its an old town set in the middle of volcanoes, and there's one near by that's active. You can climb to the top and look inside the smoking creator!

Also Check out Flores (town set on its own island on a lake) and Lake Aticlan (Tourist and Beauty spot)

Belize is unmissable from guatemala. Just walk over the border like the locals do. Don't forget your AK47 and machette though, the guatemalans malicia don't leave home without em.

I was just there a few months ago. I only went to Guatemala City and Antigua....but Antigua is definitely worth a trip. Plan to spend a whole day there. Hiring a guide makes it more interesting since there are so many old churches that are beautiful that you can walk right into, but having a guide helps with the history of the place. The food there is also WONDERFUL. Antigua is very safe....just use common sense as you would anywhere else. You'll fine some GREAT deals there. And yes, there is an active volcano that you can hike up. Don't go it alone. Take a guided hiking trip.

Guatemalan people are very friendly overall. Sure, it is safer during the day than at night.....just like in areas in the States. American money is usable in the cities....but you may want to change to Quatzales(sp?) if you go to more remote areas.

there a lot of nice places at Guatemala City, Antigua is prettry nice. go to lago atitlan and amatitlan. go to the beach. I'm not catholic but Esquipulas is a beautiful place to visit, n tikal is a must
