I'm going to work in Guatemala from the first week of august so can anybody tell me about GT? |
Travel Info like climate, cost of living, etc., Travel Tips Guatemala is a very nice country. It depends where you're going to live. If you're living in the capital, cost of living is cheaper than the USA. Climate is a little rainy, but not very cold. Maybe 80 degrees during the day and 70 at night. If it ever gets "cold" it would be around 60 degrees. If you're going to rent an apartment, that would be around $500 in a good area of the city, like Zone 14, Zone 10, 15. Food is inexpensive at grocery stores, but restaurants are around the same price as the US, or around 15% less. One concern may be crime. I've lived here for 14 years, since moving from Chicago, and I've never been mugged, or even seen someone being robbed. They've only broken into my house twice and it was years ago, so if you take the normal precautions, you should be all right. Don't go out at night alone and I never use public buses. Or you can just buy a gun, they're easy to buy at any gunshop, you just need your passport and they'll usually do all the paperwork for you. Hope you have a good time!!! Source(s): My own experience! Other Travel Tips raining a lot, kind of cold depending where are you coming from. rents depends on the part of town or part of the country. laws are easy 18 you are an adult. please if you need more contact me lordfabricio@yahoo.com Climate varies day to day. Rains mostly this days. Cost of living, I'd go with cheap. But beware of the police. I went there last year and loved it. I stayed in Jocotenango, near Antigua, which is kind of a tourist area. So things are more expensive there, but they're also nicer. I recommend a rudimentary knowledge of Spanish. Be prepared to barter in the open markets, but not so much in shops. Try the daily special at restaurants, it's called a Plato Typico. Usually very yummy.... but don't get it if mystery meat bothers you. Cost of things there is VERY low compared to the USA. Take the chicken buses or touk-touks (rickshaw-like moped-based taxis) everywhere. Chicken buses in particular are very cheap. The natives call them chicken buses, too. Incredibly beautiful country! |
