What is the penalty for overstaying a tourist visa in Guatemala? |
Travel Info I am a permanent resident of the US, but my visa to Guatemala will only be for 30 days and I want to stay for 90 days. What exactly can I do to circumvent the visa restriction? Travel Tips There is a penalty for 10 quetzales per day if you are staying more than the allowed days. Usually this penalty is not charged if you leave the country, since the airline is the one that checks passport. Well, you can try leaving the country for a while, and re-enter with a new visa. Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, and Belize are a few hours away. Ask when you get here, really. You might have to just pay a fee, but I think you can just get your visa renewed. I know a lot of people who have been living here hassle-free for years on a tourist visa. Money moves things here. |
