I just got back from Guatemala this morning. If I were you I would book a room in a hostel (maybe Black Cat, as it looked nice and was on a good street) for a few days while you look for a place. There were numerous signs on houses that listed rooms for rent, that I know are not listed online or in the paper. Word of mouth is the best. Plus, you will be able to check out the place for yourself. I know people who took this route and it worked GREAT for them! Good luck!
