If I get sick when traveling in other countries(European), who pays for it? |
Travel Info I know I pay for at least some of it, but do US insurance carriers and Medicare cover a portion of the bill. I travel extensively in the US and never had a problem, but next April I will be in the Netherlands and some of the surrounding countries for 2 months, and I was just wondering what would happen in the event of an emergency? Thanks Travel Tips You need to talk about your health insurance company about that. You'll have to pay everything up front in any case; your insurance company would reimburse you afterwards (if at all). Go to google and look up "travel insurance" - I'm sure you'll find some good deals. Others I remember reading once on the information included with my plane ticket (I was very bored in the airport) that international emergency insurance was available for a fee. It would fly your body home if you died, or reschedule your plane ticket if you were deathly ill. My guess is that your regular health insurance does not cover unless you have a really good policy. I would recommend just calling your insurance agent and asking. Perhaps they can get you a policy that will cover. You or your insurance. Medicare usually will not provide cover abroad. You can buy inexpensive emergency medical cover that will also get you back in the event of a medical emergency. http://www.squaremouth.com/visitors-insu... This site provides comparative medical and emergency insurance quotes for people spending time abroad. U and ur gov will be paid the bill. Netherlands is a nice country. Dont worry my dear.. Everything is fine.. U will hav a great time. Hav a nice trip. gd luk. Hi, Im Dutch and worked 9 years as an international tourguide. In the case of medical need while in Europe, the costs would have to be paid in advance and later claimed from your insurance at home. Travel within the US is not the same as travel abroad (that's why it's called ABROAD). You will need a European coverage on top of your present health insurance for the time of your travel. Most travel agents can offer you such temporary health insurance. Check with the agent where you booked you flight. There are different types of travel insurance 1) Most of them include medical treatment and theft, loss or damage of material (but it only covers the present value, not the price you paid when you bought it). 2) Some travel insurances will only cover health care and repatriation. They are a bit cheaper than the full insurance. Good trip, enjoy my country! |
