Bringing a prescription to a foreign country.? |
Travel Info How do I find out if my current prescriptions are illegal in the foreign countries that I'll be studying abroad in? Travel Tips Generally, the previous answer would be good enough if your 'scrips are for internationally recognized meds. But, you may be able to find your answer in the subject country's equivalent of the Food and Drug Administration. You could also locate a major hospital of your destination and query their pharmacy and the like. Lastly, visit the country's Customs website (in America it would be the Custom and Border Patrol folks under the Dept. of Homeland Security). Warning: If your meds are NARCOTICS you may not be allowed to bring them into your destination regardless of what they are meant to treat. Please do your homework on this area or you could face a lengthy jail term (see Thailand for an example) in prisons that are much worse than American prisons. Non-narcotics are generally okay to bring with you into the country as long as you have a legitimate prescription with your doctor's or pharmacist's contact information (phone, email, website, et al.) on your person upon arrival at destination. Others Check for customs regulations on their website or call the embassy or consulate nearest you. DEPEND WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO...WHAT FOR ARE YOUR PRESCRIPTION.... is better to take with you the prescription, most of all if you decided to travel to islamic countries.... Buy a Lonely Planet Guide...take a look , before your trip, on government web pages..etc. Obviuosly, you don't want to be surprised...don't you? good luck!!1 |
