Others It's safe for 21 year old guys, but not 20 year old guys. Yeah if you hire a big ugly looking well-armed bodyguard, on the promise that he gets paid only if you get out alive I traveled through Central America with a friend earlier this year. Sure there are some unsafe places, but really there are unsafe areas in *any* country or city around the globe. My advice is that you don't have much to worry about if you make yourself aware of areas which can be dangerous - get a guide book and talk to the locals. Overall, just use your common sense when traveling. Costa Rica yes.. Many places No Where? Why? Check out state department warnings for the places you are planning to visit. Read a bit about the culture. Any place is safe if you don't stand out like a sore thumb and have a reason to be there. Yeah it's safe.
