Is there a way to break a fear of riding with others driving? |
Travel Info Recently I have gotten a fear of riding with others in their car. I get really nervous that they are going to crash or something bad is going to happen and I dont understand why. I am totally fine with me driving myself or others around but when I am in the car with someone else driving I have to close my eyes, otherwise I end up yelling at them to slow down, stop, watch the road, or that they are riding to close. I am totally scared to death. It just has happened in the past year. Travel Tips Yes all you have to do is be the designated drunk. Others Increasingly more and more common a phobia. Desensitizing is probably best. (Just do it a lot and it gets easier). Problem is that this fear is not unreasonable. Perhaps it is just better to be afraid but know you are afraid and why. Accept that there is real risk anytime you drive wheather you drive or don't. Kinda like flying. The risk is real. If you are driving you just feel the illusion of being in control more than if someone else drives. The risk is real. If you find it incapacitating, you need to work on it. Admit it is a real risk, evaluate the driver before you allow them to drive you. Asset risk and trust those who are trustworthy. You can do it. Do what you can to minimize risk and that is all you can do. I had this also and after I rode with some one that drove like they didnt have sence I never got back in their car again one is one of my own sons , but most people drive careful and think about the others in the car .M y daughter has these child proof doors and when I have to ride in the back and thats not ofteen I hated it I smothered to death with the windows open even , so if I have to ride in the back when the kids are not in the car I make her fix them and im ok . I hate feeling like this but go figure |
