How can I overcome my fear of driving? Especially if I am driving alone and going to very distant places? |
Travel Info Everytime I drive, I always have this fear of being in an accident or collision. I am brave enough to take myself in the car and start the engine. But once I start driving especially if I am alone I panic inside. I look calm but deep inside I am freaking out. Please help me. I really love driving but it is just annoying to always have the feeling that something wrong is always about to happen everytime I am out on the road driving. I normally play good music it helps a bit but not really that much. What should I do? Please advice. Thank you. Travel Tips Start slow. Take a few short trips and tell yourself it is ok to be scared. Sometimes the more you try to not be scared the worse you get. When you have had enough please pull over and eat a little. Give your self lots of extra time to get there. Get a hands free cell phone and call a friend once an hour so you do not feel alone. At one time I was really nervous about heading an hour away to Philadelphia. I had realy bad panic attacks. Now I can traval cross country with no problems. Remember the other guy on the road also does not want to crash his car. He is trying to avoid an accident as much as you are. Trusting other people can be hard. Others just be mindful, and pay close attention to the road. dont be blasting the music, getting yourself distracted. dont anser the phone if you have one. just be mindful Do some relaxation exercise like yoga. It will help in the longrun. If it persist, perhaps it's good to see family doctor about it. |
