Flying to Orlando...scared to death...HELP? |
Travel Info I am flying to Orlando, Florida with my family in 11 days. I have flown like 8 times before but this time I am scared to death because I was just diagnosed with agoraphobia!! It is a 2.5 hour ride. (We have flown after 9/11 so that doesn't scare me) I just don't like the fact that I will be trapped for 2.5 hours!! That is my main delima. Any relaxation tips or ideas?!?!????? Travel Tips Join the club. Here are some things that work for me. Music.. Magazines.... once the plain is in the air, take your shoes off. It helps you to relax alittle.....And wear comfortable clothes. some snacks.. I like trail mix myself.... And say to yourself.. this is faster than driving and more time in Orlando Have fun and just think of all the fun you are going to have when you get their Others THEN = DRIVE! It will only take Over 12-Hours! One Way! By the way, a Drink of Baily's Irish Creme in Coffee often HELPS! Thanks, RR take a portable dvd player or music player-bring lots of good magazines to tune out everyone around you-2.5 hours is a pretty short flight! well .......... agoraphobia is the fear of wide open spaces, so you should be fairly comfortable in an airplane. Just try and relax and breath normally. (easier said than done, I know) Good luck and have a nice time! "MISCONCEPTIONS regarding AGOROPHOBIA: "The word agoraphobia is an English adoption of the Greek words agora (伪纬慰蟻维) and phobos (蠁蠈尾慰蟼), literally translated as "a fear of the marketplace". This translation is the reason for the common misconception that agoraphobia is a fear of open spaces. This is not exactly the case, since agoraphobics are not afraid of open spaces themselves, but of having panic attacks as a result of being in certain locations." "Another misconception is that agoraphobia is a fear of "crowded spaces". Once again, an agoraphobic does not fear people: he or she rather fears an embarrassing/dangerous situation with no escape. Some people with agoraphobia are comfortable seeing visitors, but only in a defined space they feel in control of. Such people may live for years without leaving their homes, while happily seeing visitors and working, as long as they can stay within their safety zones." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/agoraphobia... Agoraphobia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia If you have a hobby that keeps your eyes & mind occupied, something you could take with you on the airplane, I suggest taking the 'tools' necesary to engage in it, along on your flight, keeping them within your reach. For me, that has been books for reading, or crochet hooks & yarn to make a hat ... but I don't know if hooks are allowed on planes these days. Maybe plastic hooks? Also, there are calming herbs that one can take, and/or homeopathic calming drops or tablets. Accupressure helps, too. |
