Would you be more afraid to hitch hike now than say.... 10 years ago? |
Travel Info In India, though hitch hiking is not yet very popular , just wanted to know if you think if it is a safe option. Travel Tips Just an emphatic no.With the growing influence of TV ,movies and the mass media, bad elements in society started imitating the crimes shown on screen. They do not realize the consequences;but some are penniless and wont mind going to the jail if it fetches work and food to survive.Another segment of the people (usually affluent) just want to have fun at the expense of the others' lives and do it as a routine brazenness as they know that they can get away scot free in this corrupt country by shelling out money at the right places be it the police or the polity. I dare say it is a no with a capital N. Others funny thing.about 35yrs.ago i was hitch-hiking around boston and this guy picked me up,well needless to say, we got married and have been together ever since.so that was the last time i thumbed. and yes it is unsafe today,i wouldn't do it. Generally safe. Not after dark though. I used to live in India, and I wouldn't recommend hitch-hiking there. I know I had trouble just in taxis and rickshaws so I'd be wary, especially it's not part of the culture. I would only recommend hitching in a place where I had a decent command of the language, and it was culturally okay. I used to hitch around Ireland, Denmark and Vienna...when I lived there years ago. I would still hitch in parts of Ireland -- probably Denmark -- not sure about Vienna. Absolutely not!!!! Years ago, if you weren't rich, you had nothing to fear. Now just being alive makes you prey to these miscreants from Hell!! |
