Why are we told to shut down the window slides when flying at night? |
Travel Info I enjoy looking out the window of the plane but we always get told to shut down this slide once we are in the air awhile. It can happen during the day or at night but they seem more strict at night flights. Travel Tips Yes, i think it's because you will usually cross into the bright daylight of morning sun at some point...and they don't want everyone waking up to the light...because the flight attendants would prefer everyone stayed asleep. that's what I think. Others I've never been told this, and I fly regularly. The only time I've been asked to close the shades was arriving in Phoenix in August and they asked we close the shades so that the sun wouldn't heat up the plane while it was being prepared for the next flight. They may ask to close it, especially if you're approaching daylight, to respect people who are sleeping. Although I have also flown from night into day, and watched from the window the dawn and wasn't asked to close the shade then either. Experience for your comfort.. international flying overnight crosses time zones faster than your body can adjust. rather than wake everyone at the first dawn, which you will definitely see since you're above all clouds, they keep the shades closed and keep the cabin as dark as possible, enabling people to sleep as long as they can before landing. the hope is people arrive refreshed, not dead on their butts. because why would you not shut them down?? to avoid spies to spy on you |
