Where should I be concerned about traveling with an allergy to peanuts? |
Travel Info Is there any way to find out information about the peanut in cuisine of specific countries? In particular I'm thinking of travelling to Ghana, but its possible that I may be going to another third-world country. Much appreciated :). Travel Tips Find out how to say something like "I am allergic to peanuts so they can not be in any food I eat" or something to that effect in the language of the places you are visiting, write it down on a notecard and carry it with you. When you dine at a restaurant or even with people who might be serving you food show it to them so they know. It's easier than trying to memorize the phrase in a foreign language if you don't know it. As to whether cuisine in Ghana includes peanuts, they do have a peanut soup. They call peanuts groundnuts. So if you see groundnut soup (Nkatenkwan soup) stay away! Are you allergic to palm nuts too? There is also a palm nut soup called Abenkwan. They also seem to use a good bit of palm oil in cooking. Other Travel Tips Stay away from the circus. Any place that serves pasta as a heavy favorite. Many pastas are served using lots of peanut oil to make them. Eating that pasta that used peanut oil would not be a good thing. Don't tour the Planters factory. LOL. JK. Try stopping by your local health food store, or even try talking to your doctor. Hmmm.....I'd check to see Peanuts are even raised in africa or near ghana....if not I'd doubt they end up in your food...(well, maybe peanut oil...) I have a very good answer for you ok?
