How much water can u drink before it poisons u??? |
Travel Info Yeah i drink alot of water and way to much can poison u how much is to much?? Travel Tips jale-your safe unless you get some nasty water Others hmm , probably ALOT! You have to drink alot - ie litres and litres in a very short time for you to get water poisoning. This happens when your kidneys just cant process the amount of fluid that is in your body at the time When i say in a short time for example, 6 litres in 1 hour. On average, you should drink between 1-2 litres a day, more if it is hot or you are exercising. I drink around 3-4 a day If it is clean water, you go to the bathroom regularly and you eat properly, you could drink a few gallons a day. Water itself is not poisonous, it is the diluting of the nutrients in the body that is harmful. The rule for life is "everything in moderation." My nutritionist recommends that adults drink no less than 8-8oz glasses of water and no more than 15-8oz glasses in a 24 hour period. The real concern is the amount of water that is drunk in a short time frame. If you drink an excessive amount of water (more that 32oz in less than two hours) the liquid throws your electrolyte balance off and CAN BE TOXIC! I have a Nalgene bottle (32oz) and drink 2-4 bottles per day. However, you should be careful...the more water you drink, the more your body craves. If you find that you're drinking too much, you should stave off 8oz slowly (reduce one cup...sustain that for a week...then reduce an additional cup) until you are in a safe-zone. The final concern with drinking an excessive amount of water, is that you are over-exerting your kidneys, which filters sedatives from urine. Its possible that if a kidney is continually exerted for years at a time that you may possibly wear out one or both of your kidneys. I hope this helps. My nutritionist You really have to drink glass after glass for it to be dangerous. Then, you are overloading your heart first. When your heart works too hard, it becomes difficult to breath because your lungs are slowly filling up with fluid. The heart can't pump it out fast enough. Kidneys are not the first thing to "go" with fluid overload. You can seriously dilute your electrolytes with too much water, but if you are concerned about it, drink Gatorade or pedialyte. Most people don't drink enough water!! Consult your doctor for more information. He or she is the only one that can tell you for sure if you are getting the proper amount of fluid. |
