How can putting liquids and gels into plastic bags make flying safer? |
Travel Info I'm all for secure flying conditions, but I just can't understand how putting 1 oz. of gel product into a plastic bag makes any difference at all. Travel Tips I don't know if it makes it safer, but it makes it easier. It keeps you from having to find a washing machine when you arrive at your location because the bottle broke, got a hole in it, the cap wasn't on all the way, etc. Others It makes it easier to see and to scan, all in one container. It makes security scanning simpler, and it keeps the liquids contained so they cannot mix with other items that may spill, reducing the chances of a chemical reaction that could be hazardous to other people on the plane. The pressure change from flying can make liquids and gels burst in their containers -- I always travel with the gooey stuff in a plastic bag - even when we don't fly. Mere changes in altitude can do that. (travelling from flatlands to go skiing in the mountains, every container I opened spewed out quickly - lotion, conditioner, shampoo, or had already leaked) My sister had an aerosol deodorant can explode in her luggage, everything smelled good, but was covered in a white powdery substance. A plastic bag would have contained this. Is it safer? Don't know about that, it would have been safer for her clothes! Yeah, a 1oz product, seems kind of stupid, but if they let that one go, then EVERYONE would want to . . . . . . you know how it is. |
