What are some extra precautions we can take to avoid getting sick in Mexico? |
Travel Info I already know to avoid drinking the water at all cost. Anything else?? Travel Tips Bring some waterless hand cleaner (Purell is one brand) Brush teeth only with boiled or bottled water. When you shower, don't open your mouth (I'm not joking). Get a shot for Hepatitis A (the kind of hepatitis transmitted via the fecal oral route)-- if you are in a big city, you might have to go to a clinic that specializes in travel vaccines. Many doctor's offices don't have this vaccine because the demand for it is low. Eat only hot foods (no salads!). Better yet, eat only packaged or canned foods from supermarkets, rather than restaurant food prepared with dirty water or ppl who don't wash their hands. Get travel insurance; your insurance in the US may not cover treatment in Mexico. When washing fruits (like oranges), make sure that the water you are using is boiled/clean. Don't swim in canals; there is often untreated human waste there. Others Watch out for certain things you think may not have water in them. For instance, you do not want to get ice in your drink and things like that. Besides that Mexico is beautiful and I am sure you will have a wonderful time. That's it, but beware of ice and veggies washed in water. Stay away from salads to avoid water used in dressing and to wash the lettuce. dont drink the water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have been there best one I can think of is, DON"T GO Watch whatyou eat , some foods may be cleaned in they're water ? |
