Should an American fear visiting Tashkent ? |
Travel Info I know we are not exactly loved in that part of the world . I'm thinking of taking a trip there , any ideas on how to look non-American ? :)) Travel Tips Check out the travel warning from the Department of State. There is specific advice about Uzbekistan here: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw... My advice in general is that it's best if you dress and behave low key meaning that you don't flash expensive equipment/jewelry/brands that make you stand out from afar, and that you don't wear a baseball hat, or a T-Shirt that says "my aunt went to Las Vegas and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt"... :) well something like this. You probably already know this and also to keep your passport close, and to let someone know where you are going at all times and when you'll be back, and all this, otherwise you wouldn't be traveling there, right? So the best other advice is: make efforts to speak the local language. This will always open doors and hearts no matter where you are in the world and what the relationship between your countries may be... May there be a day when all people on this planet can travel freely and without fear.... until then: Good luck! Others Um.... if you have to hide who you are to go there...... I wouldn't even go. Sounds dangerous! Don't dress like an American, and speak Russian while you are there - its not that hard. Uzbekistan was nice to travel to a few years back, but I haven't been there in a few years. |
