As far as I'm concerned - yes they do.

I used to suffer from seasickness quite badly...I was hanging over the edge of a Dover-Calais ferry when my friend found a set of such writsbands in the Duty Free shop. I wore them on the way back and was fine.

I've since been on a number of boat trips and cruises on small boats, including one to Antarctica which involved a VERY rough sailing through the Drake Passage - and have been fine.

It may be psychological, but I swear by them.
