Why are there flotation devices in the seats of planes instead of parachutes? |
Travel Info Why are there flotation devices in the seats of planes instead of parachutes? Travel Tips A plane falling uncontrollably from the sky would not be safe to parachute out of. You have to know what you are doing, and not everyone would have enough time to jump out on time. If the plane crashes over water you would not want the parachute to pull you underwater, as the material gets wet it will get heavy and pull you down with it. A flotation device will allow you to float in the water hopefully until help arrives. Others In case the aircraft has to ditch in the middle of the ocean. Parachutes require specific training, and if the aircraft were flying at 30,000 ft., parachutes won't have any use, because passengers will die from hypoxia (lack of oxygen) before anything else. Parachutes are only useful from about 15000 ft. personally, they should just make one giant parachute for the plane like they do for the private smaller planes nowadays.. honey, you crash onto land or water - does not mattter - you're done. They need to invent floating parachutes so you can float away if you were ever to land in water and if you hit land just look out for sharp objects .Just don't deploy chutes untill 14000ft. |
