It has been said that if two dogs are left in a room together unfed, they would eventually attack and eat one another to survive! If your best friend steals your girlfriend, or your girlfriend leaves you for a guy with a Ferrari. For example, two people compete for the same customer. One might use unfair practices to ruin the reputation of the competitor so that the customer will choose him instead of the competitor. It means every man for himself. In a competitve business situation people will refer to it as a dog eat dog world. The phrase is actually called an idiom. An example would be if one sales person moved in on the sales persons customer and received the customers commission. It means cut-throat competition. No mercy will be shown The phrase 'dog eat dog' is a chinese proverb. Mean is gain benefits at the expense of others. For exarmple, you whiching your opponents fight and you just stand by waiting the fight finish gain the benefits! although all the answers are somewhat correct, the actual meaning is applied to a hierarchy situation, meaning somebody is trying to get you out to save themselves, like your boss blaming you for something to save his or her job, in other words the people sink so low , they eat their own kind! research and been there |
