BCG and travelling? |
Travel Info My baby needs to be given the BCG, but he hasn't been given it yet. We need to travel to Morocco as an emergency next week. What are the risks if baby is not immunised? Do I have to get him vaccined before we go to Morocco? Travel Tips I lived in the Middle East and moved there when my child was 5, he had all of his jabs except BCG, HEP A & B. Well the school nurse said that he needed these, (she never told all the kids this.) Well I called SOS international who said that with all the people coming from different countries to live in the Middle East who had not prehaps had these jabs them selfs there might be a possiblity of passing something on. One thing to remember is that they have to have a skin test 1st, if they don't react to this then they get the BCG but I believe that the BCG is 1 week after the skin test. How long are you going for ? We lived in the Middle East 6 months before we were told to get our son sorted. Others The risk is that the baby might get Tuberculosis, obviously. The vaccine is only sometimes advised if going to Morocco, it's not essential. Are you intending to mix closely with the local population? If yes then it would be advisable to get the injection but if you won't be then he doesn't necessarily need it. |
