Is it safe to drink water when you travel to other states?

Travel Info
Is it true when you travel to other states and drink their tap water that you can get diarrhea? Or is this for other countries? Is there really any difference in other states tap water?

Travel Tips
There are a couple of reasons why people get sick from drinking tap water in other places. Either the organisms/minerals in the water are different from the ones you are used to or the water isn't properly treated. Water from municipal (city) water supplies in the US (the tap) have stricter standards than water you get from bottled water and is technically safer for you. Municipal water supplies come from rivers/lakes/reservoirs or from the ground (aquifers). Because of these different sources, your stomach may not be used to the elements in water from one source to the next which could cause an upset stomach if you are more sensitive. But generally, most people do not get sick and your body will adjust to the different water.

There are places such as in more rural areas where homes, businesses and public facilities draw water from their own well and therefore are responsible for treating their own water. Public facilities (including schools) are required to comply with water safety standards, but homes and businesses may not, so be careful of drinking that water. Other Travel Tips
THAT IS COMPLETELY TRUE, TRY TO AVOID TAP WATER, STICK TO BOTTLED WATER ONLY.
P.V. MEX
Not in any U.S. states I know of, but when you travel somewhere like Mexico definately do NOT drink the water. You can get worse things than diarrhea, believe me ;)
Water in America is regulated by government and has to meet certain standards, so it should be safe as long as it's from the public plumbing system and not a river or private well. It is true that some other countries don't have our standards so you can get the runs if you drink their water, but any modernized and up-to-date country should be okay on public drinking water. If in doubt, take bottled with you or purchase drinks that are bottled in safe countries.
doesnt depend oother states, anywhere outside home prefer to use bottled/boiled water
