Can some planes give piggybacks? |
Travel Info Can some planes give piggybacks? Travel Tips Yes. NASA carry the spaceshuttle about on the back of a 747 Jumbo jet. Others yeah... they do so with the shuttles that go into space It's called ferrying http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/people/journal... Planes can use there wake of air they leave to assist a craft behind them (slipstream) Yes. The shuttles and there were some experiments some years ago with a small plane being given a lift by a bigger one. Many years ago I believe there was a piggy back seaplane. Oh! my mind, what was it called? About the time of WW2. I remember it was on pictures in cigarette packets. yep, they did it for the space shuttle, the X15 test flights and years and years ago the russians had a big old wooden attack plane that carried four (sometimes five) attack aircraft on it. I know of only two - actually only one now since they de-commissioned the previous one (the Princess Flying Boat) which was capable of piggy-backing a smaller flying boat. The only other one I know of is the Boing 747 'Jumbo' which is used to transport the Space Shuttle piggy-back style. |
