What you need to understand is that people are never scared of flying. They are afraid of crashing. 35,000 ft up there isn't anything to crash into! Once the plane is in the air, you won't even feel that you're moving. Take off and landing take a bit of getting used to, but after your first flight, you'll be fine.

In the UK 91 people are killed and injured every day on the roads. You are statistically more likely to be killed in a car accident on the way to the airport than you are likely to be involved in a plane crash. Of the billions of people in the world, only a slim minority will every be involved in a plane crash or know someone who has been in a plane crash. On the other hand, it is the vast majority of people in the world who have either been in a car accident or know someone who has been in a car accident.

Have you considered going on a fear of flying course? Can you pin point why you're scared? Many people develop a fear of flying through a lack of understanding of how a plane gets off the ground, stays in the air and lands without crashing. I don't quite understand how any of it works, but given that so many millions and millions of people get from A to B without incident, and that plane crashes only crop up in the news once in a blue moon, I put a bit of faith in the pilot and his crew and trust that they know what they're doing. Wish I could help you but I'm exactly the same, I have finally plucked up the courage to go to Spain in August and I'm petrified. I have been told that the doctor is able to give you something but am unsure what .
First off, try not to be scared, I know this is hard, the first time I got on a plane I cried because I thought I was going to die. But, I would say go to the doctor they can prescribe an anti anxiety medication, or a sedative so you sleep through the ride.
I know someone who has problems with flying. She was given Antivert.
i would recommend going to your Dr DO NOT try alcohol as it really makes you go a bit loopy, that's talking from experience i don't like flying and the last time i had only 2 glasses of wine and it was sooo awful!!!
try hypnotherapy, it really worked for me, I have no fear at all anymore, in fact I totally freak my family out now as I'm too calm on a plane. Try it, it really works.
