How do you overcome your fear of flying?

Travel Info
how should i get rid of my fear of flying =(

Travel Tips
I'm afraid of flying too and find myself worrying about a trip months in advance. The first thing I can tell you is avoiding flying really isn't an option. In this day and age, you're going to have to fly at some point or another. And although you may never really enjoy flying, it can become a managable activity...I'm proof!

The first thing I did was buy a self-help book. I figured the more statistics, facts, etc. I could get my hands on, the better. I didn't know half of the things I ended up reading and knowing that the flight was so controlled in so many aspects made me feel a lot better. (The book I purchased was "Flying Without Fear" by Duane Brown). It also helps to remind yourself that flying is such a common, everyday activity. There are nearly 35,000 flights taking off and landing everyday...amazing!

The night before my flights I usually don't get any sleep. I want it that way so I'm tired and more apt to sleep during the ride the next day. I make sure to fill my Ipod with my favorite songs, bring a DVD or two and I usually have work to do as well so I have things to occupy me entire time. In addition, I usually have a glass of wine or two prior to my flight and one or two during as well. I'm not drunk and barely tipsy... it's just enough to relax me a bit.

The bottom line: flying really isn't as scary as you or I may believe. Although we might not enjoy it, fly ing is not a dangerous activity to participate in.

In the end, the world is an amazing place with too many beautiful countries to visit and too many wonderful people to see. Arm yourself with knowledge, do whatever you need to to help yourself relax, and trust that someone is watching out for you.

Hope this helps!

Fly and soon you will be used to it and you wont be scared any more
I am scared of flying too and I've organized my life to where it's not necessary for me to fly.
Jump from a tall building and repeat "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can." You may not succeed, but you'll never feel fear again. Or anything again.
well every one has a fear so nothing uncommon about it. while u fly just dont look down & always hav some candys in your mouth. do take ur fav book & read it while u are flying uh.. just dont look down & ull not feel flying........................
so good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try not to allow your fear control your life. I am terrified of heights, yet I went sky-diving, walked on hanging bridges and canopy walks, went ice-climbing, went wall-climbing etc. It's not that I am cured, but I have learned to handle my fear and not let it get out of hand.

Just go ahead and fly somewhere. Flying in larger aircrafts (ie 747s, B777s, A340s, A330s etc) are not scary, compared to smaller ones...that's my opinion, anyway.

Listen to mp3 and read a book, or do puzzles, or write something while flying. Give it a try. Do inform the crew that you have a fear of flying as they would normally help you through.

Good luck!!
