Terrified of flying on planes?

Travel Info
im sooo scared of flying on an airplane! ive done it before but now, after watching sooo many videos of planes crashing, i dont know how im going to get on one in the summer when i'll be traveling to europe. does anyone have any ideas how i should calm myself down? how often do planes crash neways? please help me get over this fear..!!!

Travel Tips
I have found that I do better sitting in certain areas of the plane than in others. You may find you prefer the right side to the left or the window to the aisle or the front to the back and once you discover this, you will probably make an effort to sit there on subsequent flights.

I have flown all over in all sorts of planes. The longer flights, to Europe for instance, are better in many cases than shorter flights because you are usually flying at a higher altitude above alot of the turbulence, and also, they're generally at night (going to Europe) when you are tired from the day, and during the day (coming back from Europe) when you are tired from the trip. Being tired is one thing that will help take your mind off being scared. However, you should also find other things to keep your mind occupied. Take a good book, an MP3 player with plenty of music, or something else that can help you stay focused on anything other than the flight.

European flights also have entertainment systems showing at least one recent movie, and some tv programs, plus they have a variety of music stations you can plug your headphones (into your armrest) into.

Planes rarely ever crash (outside of military planes in war zones) and even if there is some type of an accident, most of those are relatively minor (the news will report there were only minor injuries). The chance of actually being in a sever airline accident is extremely low, much lower than almost any other form of transportation (including riding in a car). If you experience bad turbulence, try to convince yourself that it is just like taking an adventure ride at a theme park instead of worrying that it will make the plane crash. The chances that a plane will crash due to turbulence, is even lower than the very low risk of other accidents.

If you're traveling with anyone else, it will help if they are either less worried, or better at hiding it than you are so their being scared doesn't make you scared (and their being calm will help you calm down). Hopefully it is someone you like as well so that you will be thinking about enjoying their company and not thinking of your situation.

Don't go to the airport stressed out, or unprepared. The longer you spend stressed and anxious, the more it can build. Don't wait to the last minute to pack. Double/triple check that you have everything (most especially your passport) try to check in online if you can in advance of going so you can head straight to the gate. Understand security procedures in advance and get there with enough time so you're not having to risk missing your plane or scramble to accommodate some rule ((laptops have to be presented by themselves. All liquids (which have to be 3 oz or less each in size) have to be placed in one (per person) clear, quart-sized bag and the bag has to be closable, and these bags have to be taken out of your carry on luggage and presented separately, etc...)

Finally, on longer flights, the airlines bring around alot more food and beverages than on shorter flights. They will probably offer water or coffee two to four times apart from your other meals. This will help also in taking your mind off stuff, as will not allowing yourself to get really thirsty.
Others
Stop watching all those videos. They really dont help. Also just know that the probabilities of crashing in your car are much grater than those of flyng. So there is a grater risk coming out of your driveway safely than there is taking off on an airplane...
