What's the deal with U.S. airports - returning from overseas? |
Travel Info I just got back from a trip to Europe, and after landing, we had to stand in line to get our passports checked - no problem. But then, we had to get our checked bags, and go through customs. Ok, that's not unusual. But then, we had to put our bags on another conveyor to be scanned again, and go through another check-in procedure. The height of stupidity was that I didn't have a baggie for my little hand purifier, and because it wasn't in a bag, they confiscated it. Oh, and if you bought something at the duty free shop and didn't put it into your checked bags, they confiscated it. What a crock! Why are we putting these stupid rules mindlessly into effect? The long cues formed in the name of security are a perfect opportunity for terrorists to kill hundreds of people in one shot. What am I missing here? Does someone have a decent explanation for this? Travel Tips I have no idea, I was in the UK in April and flew back to Canada and they are making a big deal about the amount of liquids. No problem with a full bottle of perfume but made more of a big deal coming, what was left in the bottle. I think they should spend more time worrying about what also goes on in the background behind the scenes, especially when some airlines want luggage unlocked, which I do not agree with. Everyone who works for an airline is NOT HONEST. Also I think all airlines should be consistent with their rules!! They will put people off travelling and then complain about the money they are losing. Others It has to do with 9-11. Go Blue! Nope, unfortunately I have no decent answer at all. Welcome to post-9/11 air travel in America, where my lipgloss is more carefully scrutinized than airport workers who have access to secure areas of an airport, or to the cargo they load onto the plane. It's lunacy. For more info, check with http://www.tsa.gov/. |
