Should I take the train, plane, bus or car? |
Travel Info My grandma lives in another province and wants my daughter and I to come out and visit. She lives 12 hours away. The problem with visits out there is the lack of transportation to get around and I am on a tight budget. This week I was looking into plane fares ($561 for a round trip). Though flying gives me migraines and my daughter would be very thrilled to fly. (She's only 5). The greyhound would cost around $300 and the Train is $600. Going to BC would be fine on the bus but coming back, there is standing room only. My next option is to drive there. I'm not sure about it. The car is in good shape - but it would be just me and her in the car and I haven't had any luck finding a travel companion. Of course there are many sights and attractions on the highway as we're driving. If I drive my car there, I would have the needed transportation. Car rentals out there are pricy and one has to have a credit card in order to get one. I can't afford one of those..... My puzzlement! Travel Tips If you have the time to drive (and what a luxury that is, to have time), then I would recommend driving. Travel 3 hours at a stretch, and stay overnight on your drive so you break up that 12 hours into 2 days. There are plenty of inexpensive hotels or inns so your overnight stay would only add around $100 to the cost of fuel. The fuel will probably cost you another $250. If you map out interesting side trips or sights to stop and stretch your legs, explore for an hour, you will enjoy the drive so much more than the flight or the bus. The train would have been my first choice but the price is suprisingly prohibitive. As you point out, once there you would then have a vehicle to get around. Others fly its fun and cheep and u get a new experiance if you're short on budget take the train but if you really want to get there fast take the plane Drive there, it'll be great to bond with your daughter. I would drive but would stop at several places along the way to make it fun for your daughter. just pick what you can afford, and what you are most comfrtable Take a plane! Bring a Tylenol in case of a headache. |
