Trying to surprise someone in late August how would I travel from Hobart to Queensland. I do drive and would be arriving from Canada .. right to Hobart

you know tasmania's an island right? so driving is wicked impractical...also, the fact that driving from melbourne in vic in the south to say, airlie beach, would take a good 30+ hours...the rent a car, plus time spent plus gas would be ridiculous, i say fly. you can get good fares, esp from virgin blue if you book it from 12-1 i nthe afternoon, which in the states is btwn 7-11pm depending on the time zone...also jet star is like the southwest airlines of australia so try them...
