How many islands are in Hawii? |
Travel Info How many islands are in Hawii? Travel Tips There are eight main islands: Hawaii (aka "The Big Island"), Maui, Kahoolawe, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai, Niihau. You may freely visit all of them, except Kahoolawe, which is uninhabited and Niihau which is a private island which may be visited by invitation only. There are also several islets near the main islands such as Rabbit Island, Molokini, the Mokoluas, etc. and of course, the Hawaiian archipelago continues north of Kauai for several hundred miles with many atolls, islets, rocks and small islands such as Nihoa, Necker and Midway. The last "island" on the chain is called Kure Atoll and beyond that it is open ocean until you reach Asia. South of the Big Island of Hawaii, the newest Hawaiian island is already forming from a volcanic eruption at the bottom of the ocean. Just do not put a down payment on your beach front property there yet, since it will be several thousands of years before it emerges to the surface. Source(s): http://www.huapala.org/nw_isles.html...
