HAWAii HElP!? |
Travel Info what are the must do things while your there, what islands would an 18, two 16 , and a 14 year old enjoy most? How crazy is it during spring break. GAHH! please do tell:]] Travel Tips I dont like Hawai'i, I like Maui and Oahu better. [I live in Maui] I suggest Maui and Oahu instead. Hawai'i does have volcanoes that you can look at, but over all it is not that exciting. Oahu is my favorite, it is the big vity type, it's very crowded though-lots of sky-scrapper, but the four story mall is the best!! [Ala Moana Center], there is also a zoo there, and the Palace, that Queen Liliokalani lived it! That is cool! There is also a waterpark. [the Iolani Palace:http://www.iolanipalace.org/ ] [Ala Moana Center: http://www.alamoanacenter.com/ ] [the waterpark: http://www.hawaiianwaters.com/ ] [the zoo: http://www.honoluluzoo.org/] Maui is very beautiful, Wailea and Lahina are the nicest places, if you are looking for a hotel. The Grand Wailea, is a nice, over-priced hotel, but the pool is awesome! They have a water elevator there. [The Grand, is the only place i the world that has a water elevator. -it's not that exiting though.] here is their website: http://www.grandwailea.com/ You cannot see the sunrise except for on [Mount] Haleakala. I heard we have a zip-line going over the crater. We also have lots of waterfalls in Hana. I live in Maui, and I have to say I think you will like it much more. It is very small, but there is a lot more to see than on Hawai'i a.k.a."the big island". 鈥AWAI'I has controlled erupting volcanoes. It isn't good to breathe all the vog though. It is the biggest island, but it doesn't have much. You are lucky that there is a Walmart there! It is mostly dried up lava taking up all of the area. 鈥?MOLOKAI is very small, not much to do. It is dangerous to go into some of the oceans because they have stronger tide that can "drag you all the way to Oahu" and you won't make it all the way to Oahu. It is very friendly there, but there is only one super market. When I visited there, the only super market was closed by the time we arrived, and the next day was a holiday, so they weren't open. We had to find snacks from a Wine and Spirits store. 鈥?OAHU is very nice, it is my favorite island, it is smaller than Maui, but busier than Maui. There are bunches of stores, and a 4 story mall! [Ala Moana Center] It is very nice if you love the city. ..but once again, it is very busy. 鈥?Maui is very beautiful, it is not to small, and not to big. The only place you can see the sunrise is on Haleakala [House of the Sun] -which is a mountain. Our three biggest stores are Walmart and K-mart, and Costco. We have a Safeway an Starmarket also. Costco and K-mart are right next to the Kahului airport, which is quite convenient. We also have waterfalls, in Hana. But make sure you get up early, it's a long drive. Others Well, you could go to the volcano, or on a cruise or even go to maui? The easiest question to answer is about how crazy it gets during spring break...because it doesn't get crazy at all. I think the only thing different about spring break in Hawaii (or on Oahu at least) is the increased traffic (since schools are out) and crowded airport (college kids coming home). What islands would those kids enjoy the most? That depends on what types of things they like to do. If they are NOT into outdoor-type activities, stay away from Molokai, as it is the least developed (in terms of buildings) of all the Hawaiian islands. If they want to do a lot of hiking, fishing, and swimming, then Molokai is for them, if not, they'd get bored pretty quickly. Even Hawaii residents don't go to Molokai much....unless we want to get away from the "big city" of Oahu. Oahu is at the other end of the spectrum. Oahu has a good amount of malls and a large variety of places to eat. But you also have the opportunity to check out the beautiful beaches (esp. on the North Shore), and even do some hiking. The main difference is that when doing these outdoor activities on Oahu, you'll run into a LOT of tourists and residents.....and traffic. I'd probably advise you to go to either Kauai or Maui, or both. Those islands offer something of a balance between crowded Oahu and rural Molokai. On both of those islands, you have your malls and places of fine dining, but you also have opportunities to do a bunch of outdoor stuff as well. Check out some of the brochures at any of those airports, as they're full of ideas and numbers to call for the "must-do stuff". YOU MUST BE AWARE OF THE WATER. IT IS THE CAUSE OF MANY TOURISTS DEATHS. I live on Kauai, the Garden Isle. Oahu, definitely. Hotels are located within walking distance from Waikiki Beach, restaurants, shopping and there is a lot of nightlife there. Spring break is not crazy, in a sense as Florida is. There is just more people during that time. Must do's: Hanauma Bay, walk around Waikiki at night, go to Paradise Cove luau; and (if you're driving): go to the North Shore, Sandy Beach and Makapu'u beach to check out boys, or girls (not sure what sex you are). Don't do any swimming there though, unless you're used to being beat up by the surf. =) Have fun! I'm from Oahu. |
