Best way to tour Pearl Harbor? |
Travel Info I am going to Honolulu, and plan to tour Pearl Harbor. I want to do the free tour of USS Arizona, and the paid tour of USS Missouri. What is the best way to coordinate these 2 tours? Travel Tips They are just next door to each other. I would suggest to pick up your free tour ticket at Arizona first. The timing will decide if you go to Arizona or USS Missouri first. If you get a ticket for an afternoon tour (a wait time of 3 or more hours), then, proceed to next door to buy the ticket for the battleship. They are usually less crowded then Arizona tour. If your wait time for Arizona tour is less than 3 hours, you might want to drive down to Pearlridge Shopping Center (about 5 min away only). Eat lunch there and come back for the Arizona tour. Arizona tour include a 20 min documentary and a boat ride. Therefore, there are limit on the seating. Whereas for the Battleship, you can join their guided tour (well-recommended) and then tour the battleship at your own pace after that. There is no time limit (beside the closing time). We spent about 3-4 hours the last time we went, including a very informative guided tour. If you planning to visit there on either Wed, Sat or Sun, you might want to check out the swap meat at Aloha Stadium (opposite only) early morning (abt 7a.m). A suggestion on Wed: 7a.m - Go to Aloha Stadium for swap meat. 9am.- Go to Arizona Visitors Center to pick up the ticket. If more than 3 hour wait. Proceed next door to buy ticket for battleship. If you have to go to battleship first: 12p.m - return to Arizona center. If you still have more wait time, go to Pearlridge Shopping Center to have lunch. 2p.m - return to Arizona center for the documentary and boat ride. 3 p.m - Walk around the visitor center, many plates of history there. Others Both the Pearl Harbor tour and the USS Missouri tours start in the same general area (it's also the start area for the USS Bowfin Museum tour). You should be able to park your car in the lot, store your valuables in the lockers once (as you can't carry anything but basically your camera on the Arizona), and do both tours relatively quickly. Good luck and happy travels! |
