All Islands are great for surfing but if you are new to the board and don't want to get shredded stick to O'ahu's south shore. Windward O'ahu especially Kaneohe Bay is kind to newbies but the North Shore of O'ahu can be gnarly. The truly gnarly surf though is on the North Shore of Maui and especially Kauai. That said - - - - factoring in crowds, etc, and places to stay I would say Maui, 1st up, Kauai 2nd and O'ahu third. Peace... If you want to learn then the beaches at Waikiki is the place to go. They are eager to give lessons. They're all good.....there are many beaches that are good for surfing on all islands. Which beach is good for you depends on what level of a surfer you are, how far you're willing to paddle out, and what kind of transportation you'll have. Good luck!
